Russell Square

A whole weekend of curious activities for kids and adults, running from 10am-7pm on Saturday 19 October, and 10am-5pm on Sunday 20 October.

Come and discover a playground for the mind at Russell Square, which is bursting with over 40 projects, art installations, performances and events over the festival weekend.

  • The popular SOAS World Music Stage returns with a programme of live music to get your body and soul moving during the weekend.

  • Open your mind with the UCL Ideas Salon.

  • Get glittered and experience a one-to-one art performance with face painting for adults in the Parlour, a converted ice-cream van.

  • Fill Russell Square’s covered walkway with origami flowers that represent a mood, emotion or moment in your life, in association with The October Gallery.

  • Have your portrait painted with the People’s Portrait Project.

  • Make a playhouse out of recycled plastic bottles with the Calthorpe Project.

  • Hear about the future of toilets and the history of poo with Dr Lena Ciric.

  • See the Choir with No Name perform at our grand finale on Sunday.

  • The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine will treat the festival to a performance of the Tarantella, a dance inspired by insect bites.

  • The Ministry of Movement presents dance performances and workshops in collaboration with Wellcome Collection and The Place.

  • Find something new to read in a wonderful pop-up bookshop created by local independent booksellers and publishers.

  • Find unique products from local designers in the craft market.

  • Sample food and drink from local establishments including Bea’s of Bloomsbury, HCA Community Cooks and the Espresso Room.
