Event Details

A walk with Paul Guest, featuring ten highly distinguished figures who have breathed some new life into our society by creating conditions for progress, with a lasting impact.

This walk features ten figures, who have truly made progress by creating conditions for it from the 18th century to the 20th. Their achievements include founding the UK’s first children’s home, laying the foundations of the Welfare State, creating distinctively modern poetry, raising awareness of the need for equality in the electoral system and pioneering adult education open to all. Their impact can still be felt, not only in terms of social organisation and institutions but also culturally and even, in some cases, morally in relation to social justice and diversity. The ways in which they continue to shape our lives should never be taken for granted.

This walk will begin at Blooms’ Cafe and end at Torrington Place, via Russell Square.
