Event Details

This guided walk with Camden Tour Guide Brian Turner shines a light on people and places associated with an extraordinary episode in public health reform: the wide ranging, revolutionary, response of the state and the voluntary sector to the squalor and epidemics of mid-19th century London. This was a time in which London grappled with a problem unprecedented in history: how to be a modern city of teeming, and more or less thriving, millions. The consequences of its response live on in plain sight today.

The walk will begin outside the main (but disused) Malet Street entrance to the world-famous London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and wind its way through one of London’s most engaging districts, ending in the churchyard of St Giles.

FREE – but pre-booking is essential
