Event Details

Bloomsbury is famous for its formal garden squares, first laid out over 200 years ago, but it is also home to other green spaces, from repurposed churchyards to a community garden in the shadow of a 1970s shopping centre. Each space has its own story to tell, about garden design and horticulture and about the individuals who have lived and worked nearby.

This guided walk is led by Chris Wilkins Molloy, who is a Camden Guide and a City of London Garden Guide. Starting with Russell Square Gardens, we will explore spaces that are now open to the public and provide much-needed ‘urban lungs’ for mental wellbeing. The walk will include tales of individual bravery and determination, community endeavour, and changing ideas in garden design. This walk will will finish in Gordon Square where memorials to historic figures can be discovered amongst the greenery.
