Thursday 24 October: Nicolas Laborie

2024 Writers in Residence

The Gentle tides of human graces

Humble, we dive together
Under corals’ whisper,
Miracles shared between you:
A.I., could it be true?
New lasting foundations, I, nurture, all
Kindness where gentle bonds, never fall.
In equity, side by side we stand,
New collectives forming above
Deep in rhythm and swing, hand in hand: they strive and love.

Ragtime rêverie

Tip    Tap and dip your toes
High fives and horn blows
Bebop    Chops and hepcat sway

Tonight, the Sax wails of dreams and blues
Without a single clinker, Echoes or foes.

Tip              Tap, with cadence, dig deep
Every heart
Beat
Riff
Run
And slide-slipping into a stride
The keys into a ragtime reverie.

…………………………………………………

An Acrostic poem inspired by the Bloomsbury Festival 2024`s theme and the following experiences:

  • SEI SOLO by Yente Lottman
  • Shifting Perspectives: Visual Tales of “Unexpected” Mental Health Champions – Elizabeth Dalziel
  • Women by Women: Shattering Refugee Stereotypes and Narratives – Action Aid UK
  • Virtual Worlds: Corals at the Grant Museum
  • Echoes of Care: The Celebration

A jazz poem inspired by:

  • Limehouse de Reverie with the Cable Street Rag Band
    Highlight of my  day:

The Cable Street Rag Band is an old-style jazz four piece band, swing into the 1920s and 1930s jazz, before the dance floor filled with shinny shoes and a twirling wheelchair to. D Flat blues.
With Hipcats we danced, until “Dust”Check out their album “Dust”
