Roaring African-Jazz-Fusion: Grand Union Orchestra Presents... REGEN
REGEN onstage are a high wire act of bebop idiosyncrasies with a pounding african rhythm section, each musician bringing elements of their traditional cultures from Angola, Nigeria, Korea, Jamaica, Togo and beyond, the band manufactures bouncing rhythmical bombs: expect improvisational explosions of sound and polyrhythms to move to.
Grand Union Orchestra is a music-led charity that brings together world-class
artists and diverse communities to create powerful, socially engaged work
through collaborative, cross-cultural music performances. We unite young and experienced musicians in a shared space to explore intercultural music traditions, improvisation, and collaboration, creating a new musical language that inspires, motivates, and envisions a more hopeful future.
Founded in 1982 by composer Tony Haynes, Grand Union brings together
world-class musicians from over 40 global traditions to create original music
that reflects contemporary life and challenges inequality. Through large-scale
productions, recordings, and educational programmes, we celebrate cultural
heritage while empowering new generations of artists.
Grand Union’s work creates a continuous cycle of creation through learning,
collaboration, experimentation and community engagement. We believe music
can inspire dialogue, honour local stories and cultural experiences, and help
build a just, inclusive and imaginative society.
