Just Turn UpAn exhibition of artwork exploring the relationship between housing, home and health created by award-winning multi-media artist, Lynn Dennison.
Part of a UCLH public art commission, Home Truths explores the impact of homelessness and poor housing on health and inequality, and their resolution. The artwork has been informed by research into how homelessness and inadequate housing affects the whole population, and uses installation, collage, moving image and alternative photographic processes. It has been developed alongside families with experience of living in temporary accommodation, doctors and paediatricians, local councils and housing teams, architects and town planners.
Conveying the huge impact of homelessness on lives and prospects, Home Truths will show how essential social and affordable, sustainable housing is, not only to people needing homes, but also to the benefit of wider society, the economy and the environment. The work highlights the hidden aspects of homelessness, focussing particularly on families living in unsuitable conditions, as well as documenting the positive impacts of sustainable and secure housing amongst residents of Passivhaus social housing.
This public art commission is part of Healthy Homes for All, a festival of engagement events bringing together research and expertise from UCL’s architecture and public health departments, directed Murray Fraser, Professor of Professor of Architecture and Global Culture and Rosalind Raine, Professor of Applied Health Research and supported by UCLH Arts.
