18:30 – 19:45
A concert of music by Huguenot composers, from the 17th and 18th centuries. Period instruments will be used, and letters by the actor David Garrick will be read
Bloomsbury Baroque will play a selection of music from the main Huguenot composers since their initial appearance in England during the seventeenth century to their established role in English cultural life in the late eighteenth century. We will focus on David Garrick's work with musicians and connections to France to illustrate the changing place of this community within British life, with extracts from his letters read during the performance. Composers featured will include Nicholas Lanier, Peter Prelleur, and members of the Barthelemon family. Bloomsbury Baroque will use period instruments for this performance.
