Title: Conversion
Writer: Nick Carson
Creative partners: NB Studio, SEA Design
The work: 200cm x 94cm x 3cm, matt-silver vinyl lettering on a fairground-style distorting mirror
Description: A palindromic – or ‘mirror’ – poem exploring the dialogue between St. Paul’s Cathedral and Tate Modern through the Millennium Bridge. Each reading converts meaning between sacred and secular perspectives, mirroring the bridge’s role as both physical and philosophical crossing.

CONVERSION

Conversion
(North Bank)
Transcendent
Vision,
in this great
Cathedral
our Muse
illuminates.
Hands reach for
Divine things.
Here, we see
the river
divide.
We bridge
our hearts
and minds.
This seat of
power inspires
post-Conversion;
where once
was Vice,
now reborn.

Conversion
(South Bank)
Now reborn,
where once
was vice.
Post-conversion,
this seat of
power inspires
our hearts
and minds.
We bridge
the river
divide.
Here, we see
hands reach for
divine things.
Our muse
illuminates:
in this great
cathedral,
transcendent
vision.
