(Sestude)

Inside I’m, ‘Breathe. Conceal emotions. Let
no-one in.’ Outside I’m all, ‘Granite-Girl.
Harder than the hardest rock, sharper than
machetes, inflictor of afflictions.’
How I wanted that dictionary: the
substance, the scent, the serenity of
cool pages. The words. Offered covertly,
furtively fumbled, it became tainted.
So out the window it tumbled. I mocked
shocked, censorious gazes, ‘n’importe quoi.’
My heart bled.
