Event Details

Join singers from Bloomsbury and beyond for a joyful and powerful sharing of songs showcasing the history of the streets of Bloomsbury and St Giles, and the global cultures of communities who live here now.

This uplifting evening features new ballads composed and performed by local choirs, traditional songs from South Asia, South America and Europe, and locally produced eighteenth and nineteenth century ballads researched by musician Vivien Ellis and a group of volunteers.

These historic songs tell authentic stories of life on the streets of St Giles, giving a unique insight into the lives of the rich and poor, healthcare through the ages, crime and punishment, and the lives of entertainers of past centuries.

This event takes place in the Main Hall at Conway Hall.

Presented by Bloomsbury Festival as part of the Strange Doings in London Heritage project supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Read more about this project here.
