A creative embroidery workshop exploring how Bloomsbury’s modernist artists responded to the challenges of the First World War.

Step into Friends House Library for a creative workshop exploring how Bloomsbury’s modernist artists responded to the challenges of the First World War. In 1916, amid the cacophony of the western front, Bloomsbury artists and Quakers collaborated on an experimental textile project that offered refugee women paid work and creative expression.

In this hands on session, you’ll be able to try simple embroidery inspired by the Omega Studios’ original designs and get up close to objects and archives rarely seen by the public. Whether you’re an experienced maker or just curious about art and history, everyone is welcome.
